As the forest clears around the narrow dirt road we can spot her little red house. Finally, we’re back.
It’s beyond heartwarming to step into this warm home again. To see the kids with my grandmother, strengthening their bond.
It’s never particularly easy to find opportunities to head down here. The drive is long and the kids quickly become restless. The pandemic certainly hasn’t helped either. So, I’m really happy we were able to make it work.
We spend our time playing the same games as when I was a kid, and that my mom did when she was little. We do the same puzzles, play the same card games and with the same old toys.
After a few short days together it’s time to head back home again. To make the drive a bit more manageable we make a good number of stops on our way back, spending the night around the halfway point.
Being alone on the road with the kids is certainly a bit tiring, but also a lot of fun. Before too long we’re home, ready to get back to the day to day.
